Grief doesn't need
to be fixed.
It needs to be heard.
A gentle, Ericksonian practice in West Lothian where grief is honoured, not pathologised. For when life has changed shape and you need somewhere safe to land.
A real person,
not a programme.
I'm Morven Taylor, a clinical hypnotherapist based in West Lothian, specialising in grief and loss. I trained at CPHT and I'm registered with the NCH and AfSFH.
My practice is solution-focused and Ericksonian, which means we work with what's already good in you, not against what feels broken. Sessions happen in my home practice or online, whichever feels right.

Grief takes many forms.
If it matters to you, it belongs here.
Grief is a natural response to love. It isn't always about death.
What hypnotherapy
feels like.
It's not about being "put under." It is a natural, conversational process. We talk. We pause. We notice what matters. Sometimes there is silence. Sometimes imagery or memory gently arises.
You remain aware and in control at all times.
Deeply calming. Surprisingly normal.
Emotionally spacious. Subtle, yet lasting.
How I work.
Respects your experience
This is not a manualised grief programme. Your grief is unique and will be treated that way.
Works gently
Ericksonian hypnotherapy works indirectly and without force. You remain aware and in control.
Trusts your wisdom
We create the conditions where your own healing intelligence finds its way forward.
What clients say
— Jennifer JamiesonI have attended a number of hypnotherapy sessions with Morven for help with stress and I have always felt relaxed afterwards with a more positive outlook. Morven is a consummate professional who not only draws on her own professional training but who also draws on her own personal experience to support her clients. I have always ended the session feeling accepted and understood. I would thoroughly recommend Morven as a practitioner and would encourage anyone to book a session.
— Mark LoveladyI’d tried counselling, CBT, and a few other approaches — none of them felt quite right for me. What surprised me about working with Morven was how natural and unforced it felt. There was no performance, no pressure, just a real ease in the room. I left each session calmer than I arrived.
— Derek HigginsI was genuinely sceptical — I’d tried various types of therapy over the years and was starting to wonder if I was just someone who couldn’t be helped. Morven’s approach is completely different. The openness she brings, and the gentle way she holds the space, made it possible to finally move through something I’d been carrying for a long time.
Common questions
What is hypnotherapy, and will I lose control?
Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxed, focused attention, similar to daydreaming or being absorbed in a book. You remain fully aware and in control at all times. I cannot make you do or say anything you don’t choose to.
Can hypnotherapy help with grief specifically?
Yes. Grief responds well to the calm, indirect approach of Ericksonian hypnotherapy, whether from bereavement, relationship endings, health changes, or any significant loss. We don’t analyse or re-traumatise. We work gently with what’s already in you.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients find meaningful change within 6–12 sessions, though every person is different. We move at your pace. There is no fixed programme, and you are never locked into a course.
What happens in a first session?
We talk. I listen to what’s brought you here, explain how the mind works in grief, and answer any questions you have. The first session is calm and exploratory. There is no pressure to do anything you’re not ready for.
Do you offer a free initial call?
Yes. A free 20-minute telephone consultation is available for anyone who wants to get a feel for whether working together might be right. No commitment, no obligation.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. Online sessions are available via video call and are just as effective as in-person work. Many clients prefer the ease of being at home.
How much does it cost?
General therapy sessions are £65 for adults (£60 for students). An initial consultation is £20 for 20 minutes. If cost is a barrier, please get in touch. I offer a small number of reduced-fee places.
